I went through four usernames: Kris7Pivot, Xentyo, Ricexen and RiceSeed(x). Each marked a phase: animating stick figures in Pivot, editing AMVs in Sony Vegas, chasing zen in rice and planning channels with my own two hands.

This is how I got from Kris7Pivot to RiceSeed(x), with proof still standing: the K7P shield I designed in 2011.

What is the username of the NT's crew member that likes a lot Pokemon videogames?

🎧 Voice note: How I went from Kris7Pivot to RiceSeed(x)

The original recording, ~11 min telling the story straight from the recorder: Pivot, AMVs in Sony Vegas, zen rice and the Rosarito backpack.

Before the names: fighting stick figures

My first interactions with the internet were grotesque animations almost everyone saw. I tried to avoid them and they still reached me: Mario in GTA, Mario vs Goku made with sprite sheets and all the stick-figure fighting stuff.

So the first thing I did when we got internet at home was try to animate. The tool I got was Pivot Stick Figure Animator, and honestly it was so fun to animate with it.

Kris7Pivot was my first signature

Pivot gave me my first username: Kris7Pivot, shortened to K7P. Even my first hotmail was made with that name, and I kept it for a long time. There's still proof: my Naruto vs Sasuke fight animated in Pivot from 2010, uploaded from the account still called kris7pivot.

I dropped it in high school, when they start asking for a more professional email. According to them they're transitioning you to the adult world, so you adapt.

Xentyo was born from Centello trimmed to the minimum

AMVs were already moving on their own before the name. They were videos halfway romantic, a way to express what I felt, without getting too mushy. This one with True Tears is from 2012, still signed as kris7pivot:

At that stage I edited with Sony Vegas, which was between crackable and usable: everything else came with viruses or the antivirus killed it.

There I learned an effect called Centello: it made the light points shine, like halos around every bulb. The Centello tutorial I followed explains it better than I can.

And since I was deep into minimalism thanks to Steve Jobs, I trimmed it as much as possible:

  • Centello β†’ Centeyo β†’ Centyo β†’ Xentyo

My biggest achievement as a creator was joining a collab in 2015. This was my track:

Here's the full collab, my part starts at 3:30.

Then came Anohana, in 2016.

I kept that name almost the whole time, until mid-university.

Xentyo died in a backpack in Rosarito

Two things killed Xentyo. A breakup made me want to forget several things from that era, and look for a more zen and calm mode.

The other was practical: on a university camping trip near Rosarito we left our phones in a backpack, it got stolen and I was left without a phone. Everything was tied to that number as second factor, including the Gmail for the channel. I spent years without logging in; I recovered it less than two years ago.

Ricexen was zen mode, then processor

The next name came from wanting to externalize another part of my personality. I did my big research and chose rice: the simplest staple there is, almost pure starch and carbs. Rice plus xen: it sounded like zen, the mode I was looking for, and it was the vestige of Xentyo.

About 7 or 8 months later the Ryzen processor brand got popular and I liked the coincidence. It was the alternative doing things differently against Intel, and I liked that way of competing in the market.

Over time trends shifted and Ricexen went from being at the epicenter of doing things right to the other side. To shake that off I moved everything toward YouTube and podcast channels.

RiceSeed(x) carries the x as a vestige

RiceSeed is rice seed, and the (x) is the vestige of Xentyo that survived two deaths. It's still the current name.

Kris7Pivot animated. Xentyo edited. Ricexen thought. RiceSeed sows.

They say changing your username is an identity crisis. I say it's moving: same person, another channel, like I can't move in the physical world, it's the most I can do.

The funny thing is Kris7Pivot is still alive: its channel, its 2010 video, its 2011 shield. I didn't kill it, I just stopped signing that way. All my names are still there, like old houses I can go back to... or not.

My best moment was a 23-second track in someone else's collab. After that there was nothing left to prove: the names that followed were to organize my life, not to be seen.

But well, I'll keep growing, and I'll probably keep changing names. Part of me is annoyed to have everything scattered, but moving and leaving things behind also leaves me freer.

What I've always looked for in the end: to carry freedom wherever I move, whether in time or in the physical world. Hopefully I'll move in the physical world soon.
