The jobs we hate are the ones that should disappear.
People used to talk about pink-collar, white-collar, and blue-collar jobs β that the white ones would be replaced by AI. It's happening, just not the way we expected.
Jobs that aren't enjoyable shouldn't exist. Enjoying coffee with your coworkers, sure. But why don't we create places where that happens spontaneously instead of creating monitored slavery?
And it's no accident. The Peter Principle says that in a hierarchy, everyone rises to their level of incompetence. You get promoted for how well you do your current job, not for whether you can lead. The result: managers who can't manage, teams that suffer, and people stuck in roles they hate.
The solution? Maybe it isn't fixing hierarchies. Maybe it's stopping ourselves from creating jobs that need hierarchies to function.
